

Ernest “Ernie” William Christensen passed away peacefully on March 25, 2018 at the Gateby Place care facility after a lengthy stay. Ernie is survived by his loving wife Lena (Lee) of 60 years, two daughters, Karen Andrews, Karol King (David Anderson), one son Keith (Debbie) Christensen, two sisters, Carmon Olson and Shirley Stokes. Ernie is further survived by his grandchildren, Korry Christensen, Kyla Streeper (Dan), Kyle (Chandra) Andrews, Brigit King (Colby Innes), Brendan King and Nolan King, four great grandchildren, Silas Streeper, Elizabeth Andrews, Ethan Andrews and Emily Andrews.
Ernie is predeceased by his parents Henry and Ethel Christensen, three brothers, Hank, James, Clifford and two sisters Gilda, Anna-Ruth. Ernie travelled through the far north on an ice breaker in the early 1950’s. He worked as a radio operator, technician and supervisor at numerous Ministry of Transport airports in Northern Canada, British Columbia and Alberta.
Ernie immigrated to New Zealand in 1969 with his wife and two daughters, they missed Canada and the North so much they came back after five months and moved to Whitehorse.
Ernie loved to help friends and family with renovation projects and was always up for a winter trip to Arizona. He will be greatly missed by all who know him.
A Celebration of Life Service for Ernie will be held at a later date
