Allen James Reiffer passed away at the age of 71 surrounded by Love and Light at Ayre Manor Hospice on July 27, 2024.
Allen was known for his kindness, generosity, and strength. Family was everything to Allen. He lived by these values and never judged people. Allen firmly believed in equality – when women were still struggling to get education and build careers, Allen supported and promoted them in his life and at work.
Some say he had the luck of the Irish with multiple horseshoes hidden up his sleeve – Allen grew up playing cards, backgammon, sports, and pool. There was nothing more joyful for his family than to hear his cackling laughter when he got just the right cut in cards, made an impossible play, or won the game.
Following retirement from 39 years at Sears Canada, Allen embraced travel, a love of laughter, and a life of learning. Besides learning two languages, he also learned how to play the harmonica and chess. He was very proud to earn his Class One trucking license. His joy was unbounded in being Gramps to his beloved grandson.
Allen was a loving son, brother, husband, father, and Gramps. He is survived by his wife of 50 years Laurie (nee Watkins), son Adam, daughter Sara, favourite son-in law-Dean, grandson Jonathan, his brother Alec, and of course his Sadie dog. He will be remembered by his extended family including brothers-in-law Will Watkins, Lyle Watkins and their families.
Laurie and family would like to thank his nurse Patricia, Dr. Vlahos, Dr. Jackson and the entire palliative team as well as the staff at Ayre Manor Hospice for their support and kindness during this journey. We could not have done this without the many close friends and family for their support and love over the years.
A celebration of life will be held for immediate, close family. In Lieu of flowers please consider honouring Allen by playing some cards, trying something new, or doing a kindness for someone else.
May his memory be a Blessing to all those that knew him and were touched by his Light.
All my Love Always, L.
