Born 1925 in Ladner, B.C. to Theodore and Kate LeHuray who immigrated to Canada from
Guernsey, Channel Islands. The family quickly settled in Victoria and Barbara was educated
first at St. Christopher's primary school then graduated high school at St. Margaret's. After
a year at Victoria College (UVic), in Craigdarroch Castle, she spent a term at Sprott Shaw.
While working for Trans-Canada Airlines (Air Canada) she met her husband William (Bill)
Cartwright. Together they raised Alan (Paula Halladay) (grandchildren Alec, Justin &
Melissa), and Diana (Brian Kaun). She and Bill were married for 34 happy years before Bill's
sad passing of cancer in 1991.
Barbara always worked outside the home and many remember her from two Oak Bay Ave.
dental offices where she worked as an dental assistant and later a receptionist. In her
retirement she worked for a number of charities including the Heart & Stroke and the
Kidney Foundation.
Throughout her life, she has always had a great love and empathy for the many feathered
and furry family members. She loved the humans as well. She enjoyed travel, sewing, and
reading all of which were hampered by macular degeneration in the last two decades of her
life.
Daughter, wife, mother and friend she will be remembered as a kind and gentle soul.
Thank-you to the staff of Glenwarren Lodge for their thoughtful and expert care.
