December 14, 1933 - December 21, 2025
passed away peacefully at the age of 92 years in the Palliative Care Unit of the Saanich Peninsula Hospital. Born in Meddo, Netherlands, the son of Bernardus and Everdina te Kampe (Oonk). Forever missed and remembered by his son Gerrit (Carol); his daughter, Connie; and his son, Ian. Known to all as Gerrit, his strong academic abilities allowed him to break the Dutch caste system that existed at the time. He was the first farmer’s child to attend the Hogere Burgerschool (HBS) an advanced high school that was only for the upper caste. He became an amazing teacher and mentor and worked for 37 years as a teacher and Principal in Alberta. He volunteered as a soccer coach, church board member and was a Rotary Club member/President for over 32 years in both Alberta and BC. He loved gardening, woodworking and camping in the mountains which he lovingly shared with his children. A great Dad and role model who will never be forgotten. Special thanks to all of the doctors and nurses that saw Dad through his cancer journey.
