Colin was born in Pointe Claire, Quebec and spent his childhood enjoying camping with his family in Picton, Ontario and visiting extended family in Holland. He learned Dutch from his family and French from his neighbours and was fluent in both languages as well as English. He attended John Abbot college in Montreal and obtained his diploma in Forestry before moving across Canada on his own to live in Vancouver, BC where he worked for the Forestry Alliance. Colin had an entrepreneurial spirit from the beginning – whether it be paper routes as a child, becoming a master diver and starting his own scuba diving school at 17, being a successful consultant in his 20s or starting his own successful businesses over the years. Colin loved learning and had an incredible ability to not only absorb knowledge but to apply it. He obtained his business degree in his 30s from Simon Fraser University. Colin lived with a curious spirit, made adventure happen and brought energy and joy into every room he entered. He loved the ocean and was happiest in or near the water – his favourite places included Sidney Spit, Picton and the Caribbean. He was a dedicated father, loving husband and a true friend to many. He was generous, kind and instilled a deep sense of belonging to those he met. He was one of the “good guys” and he is gone way too soon. We will love and miss him for all of time.
Colin was predeceased by his father (Willem Boog) and his sister-in-law (Patricia Boog) as well as loved ones from Holland.
He is survived by his mother (Siep Boog), his wife (Suzanne), his children (Alexander and Evan), his step-children (Evan, Hope and Owen), his brother Alan (Anne-Marie), his brother Brian (Maureen) and his niece and nephews; Kierny (Hillary), Liam, Nico (Estelle) and Callum (Fredy).
A private service has already been held.
A donation in Colin’s memory may be made to the Victoria Hospice or to Brain Cancer Canada.
