With deep love and sorrow, we announce the passing of Cornel Constantinescu on June 28, 2025, at Royal Jubilee Hospital, after a long battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his devoted family and compassionate medical team.
Born on October 10, 1944, in Constanta, Romania, Cornel led a life rooted in curiosity, inventiveness, dedication and resilience. He spent two decades as a marine officer and engineer before immigrating to Canada, where he worked another 21 years as a heavy-duty mechanic in forestry and transportation. In retirement, he found joy in fishing, building, gardening, and crafts.
Cornel is remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, neighbour and friend, cherished for his commitment to family, generosity, support, wisdom, strength, and humor. He is survived by his wife Felicia; children Alina Letitia and Raul Ionut; granddaughters Tahlia Aerin and Sera Kate; and extended family in Romania and Canada. He was predeceased by his parents, siblings, and sisters-in-law.
The family offers heartfelt thanks to his care teams—especially Drs. Janicki, Parameswaran, Phang, Poonja, McKracken, Belle, Smith, Schneider, Nathan, and all the caregivers at RJH—for their unwavering support.
A celebration of life will be held on July 10, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at First Memorial Funeral Services, 4725 Falaise Drive, Victoria, followed by burial at Royal Oak Burial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Victoria Cancer Society at https://bccancerfoundation.com/donations/bc-cancer-victoria.
He will be forever loved and deeply missed.
