Daphne Mary Taylor

Daphne had 3 daughters, Madeline, Mary (passed away sadly in 2001) and Ruth, 8 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren and her devoted husband of 47 years Hugh, who passed away in 2005.

What a life Daphne lived! Born in England in 1928, after WWll she boldly travelled as a young woman to Germany and India to work as an executive assistant for the British Foreign Service. Arriving back in England, it was not long until she was married to Hugh. With three little ones in tow, they set sail as a young family for Canada in 1965. They moved around the country for Hugh’s work as an archivist, living in Edmonton, Fredericton, Ottawa and Halifax. Then when the kids moved out, they lived in Wolfville, Qualicum Beach and lastly Victoria. Volunteer work and Daphne went hand in hand, no matter where they were living. Everything from starting a recycling program in Ottawa, supporting international students attending universities, disarmament of nuclear weapons worldwide, and leading various environmental issues to protect the planet for future generations. She was also a proud member of the Raging Grannies. Saanich recognized Daphne as the Senior Volunteer of the Year in 1999. Another large part of Daphne’s life was the church, being a member of the choir and helping to run the summer day camps at St George’s in Victoria.

Daphne favourite animals were dogs and horses, even riding a horse at the age of 93. Daphne loved travelling and saw many parts of the world. She especially enjoyed family vacations to Maui. Daphne spent the last few years at The Cedar’s, after moving out of The Orchard. She really enjoyed playing card games with her friends, which kept her young. Her memory recall was incredible, and her intellect remained intact right up to the end. She was loved by many and will be missed. We have lost a good one.

Celebration of Life will be held Sunday December 21st at 1:30 at St George’s Church in Cadboro Bay. Wear your most colourful Hawaiian inspired attire— it’s a Hawaiian-themed celebration!”
