Born September 30, 1928 in Lethbridge, AB to Joseph and Doris Bell, the family moved to Vancouver after Joseph’s passing in 1933. Dave attended Kitsilano High School and graduated in the UBC Chemical Engineering Class of 1953.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Joan; children Sharon (Bob) Moysey, Rob (Janet), and Geoff and their children and grandchildren; sister Babs (Morgan) Stewart; and extended family including Bill Snowdon, Lorraine Bell, Rita Bell, and many nieces and nephews. Dave is predeceased by his brothers Harry and John, and sisters Irene and Dorothy.
Dave spent his working career at Shellburn Refinery, Burnaby, retiring in 1983. In addition to being a loving, caring husband, father and grandfather, Dave had a passion for sports and was an accomplished tennis player and enthusiastic golfer and skier. He was a long time member of the Burnaby Tennis Club. Dave always had a project on the go, from repairing his kids’ cars to organizing family ping pong tournaments or building custom furniture. In 1994, Dave and Joan moved to Arbutus Ridge on Vancouver Island and enjoyed many years of golfing and boating in the Gulf Islands. They made great friendships while spending winters near Palm Springs. Dave’s family will miss his lifelong curiosity to understand how things work; his sense of adventure; and his devotion to family and friends.
An open house to celebrate Dave’s life will be held at Sharon’s home in Victoria on July 24, 2016 from 11:00 – 4:00. Please contact [email protected] for details. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation would be appreciated. Condolences may be left at firstmemorialfuneral.com
