Dave's sister Susan Yates, as well as his friend of forty years, Sharleen Craig and close friends Greg and Cora Lamb were at his side as he peacefully left this earth to be with the Lord. Dave was seriously injured when a dead tree fell on him while he was walking his dog at Elk Lake Park five years ago. His multiple injuries left him paralyzed and eventually quadriplegic. His quality of life severely diminished as time passed, particularly over the past twelve months.
Prior to his injury Dave worked as a Driller/ Blaster through Union 1611 for many years. At one point, he had owned and ran a small moving company in Victoria, "Cautious Movers”, which is currently owned and operated by a close friend in Prince George.
He was a very faithful, non-judgmental and generous friend to many, many people. Dave always had a soft spot for anyone who was down and out on their luck. He also held a special place in his heart for children, dogs, fishing and fellowship.
Fortunately throughout his life, Dave found great comfort in his strong faith and was a regular member of the congregation at New Life Church in Victoria during the past several years.
Following his injuries, Dave lived at Aberdeen Hospital, a long term care facility. He spent the last six weeks of his life in Royal Jubilee Hospital where, in spite of the care he received, he became increasingly weak. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Sean Addison for the care and compassion he showed to David in the week prior to his passing.
Dave was predeceased by his parents, Len and Anna Inglis and sister Carol Yates.
Dave is survived by sister, Susan Yates (Patrick), nephews Shawn (Beth), Brett (Jessica) and grandniece Anna. Also survived by brother-in-law Thomas Yates and nieces Victoria Hunt (Dan) and Julianna. Dave was a wonderful uncle to his nieces and nephews. He is also survived by two loving aunts (Leila and Dorothy), in Alberta and their families.
Other surviving extended family include Lucas McLean (Kristin), Celina Flewin (Darshan), and Naiche Flewin (Natasha), along with their children Talon, Ryley, Ruby, Elora, Winter, Joseph and Thomas. These extended family members were very special to Dave and he loved them dearly.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Dave's name to your local SPCA are gratefully appreciated.
Susan would like to express her sincere gratitude to Sharleen Craig who held her hand throughout Dave's passing and making final arrangements. Also, to Greg and Cora Lamb who provided Dave with consistent, loving support and companionship over the past few years. Everyone should be so blessed to have such wonderful friends!
A Memorial Service will be held at New Life Church at 3900 Carey Road, Victoria at 11:00 a.m. Saturday November 18th with refreshments to follow.
Please note there will be a Memory Basket at the service. If you would like to share a memory of Dave please leave a note in the basket and we will read it as part of the eulogy. There will also be an open microphone available if you would like to share during the service.
