It is with profound sadness the Crawford family announces the sudden passing of Dennis Crawford. A huge hole has been left in our hearts. We consider ourselves very fortunate to have had him in our lives-each of us the richer for it.
Dennis had the greatest love for his family. His voice filled with pride while speaking of his wife, children and grandchildren; almost to the point of bragging (you would think we were all perfect). Dennis enjoyed the simple pleasures of life: warm socks, blazing fires, camping, fishing, building forts, walks to the beach, Monday night football and manning the BBQ. Family gatherings at Cowichan were times he cherished immensely.
Dennis spent forty-five years with his beloved wife with whom he shared countless milestones. Forever taking care of his girls, Dennis was always quick to grab them a pair of socks or lend them his coveted old man sweater. He was a model father to his son with whom he spent innumerable easy hours at work and play. As a devoted Papa he delighted in his grandkids every achievement.
Dennis was a kind, welcoming and generous person to his friends, of which he had many. He was quick to share a laugh and generally last to leave a party. Dennis would readily lend a hand to anyone in need-no job was too big, small or dirty.
Dennis spent many years with his wife supporting their kids in their sporting endeavours. His presence created lasting memories for those he cheered for of his booming voice across the fields. He took great delight in shouting encouragement to those who had fallen to “ROLL UP!”. Dennis enjoyed many sports-football, baseball, soccer and even hockey which he took up in his 60’s.
He was most passionate about the Velox Rugby Club where he made many lifelong friendships. A formidable loose head prop, his rugby career spanned over four decades. Crawdad volunteered, mentored young players and would defend with a straight arm any who tried to cut short his cuddle time with a Velox baby. His enthusiastic support and positive attitude were legendary on and off the pitch.
A lifelong passion of Dennis’ was woodworking. He used his hands to create beautiful furniture and gifts to those he loved. He took great satisfaction in sanding and shaping his projects to a beautiful finish.
Dennis will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his generosity for helping others and a bear of a laugh that brought smiles to those around him. He touched the lives of many and though he is gone he will forever be cherished in our hearts.
A celebration of Dennis’ life will be planned at a later date due to COVID restrictions. Fond memories can be shared below for the Crawford family.
