Den was a wild, untamed supernova—a lover of beauty, of poetry, of mountains and oceans, of people and music, of truth and freedom. He lived fully and fiercely, with a fire that touched everyone who crossed his path.
To be loved by Den was to feel seen in your soul. He made life magical—deep conversations, over-the-top dinner parties, adventures filled with big dreams and all of the music, turned all the way up. He was art. He was love. His heart was full of poetry.
His final years were devoted to being with his family, his four extraordinary kids, and helping others reclaim their lives from cancer. Through his own journey, he inspired hundreds to explore metabolic cancer protocols. He turned hardship into hope for so many.
This past year, he faced a recurrence that moved faster than we could respond. Complications we hadn't expected, a broken femur and rapid tumor growth, meant Den never had the chance to return to the protocols that saved him once before. It wasn’t a lack of knowledge, faith, or will—but the reality of a body overwhelmed before it could catch up.
And still—he never stopped being Den. He cracked jokes, made playlists, hugged us tight and reminded us that beauty mattered most.
To say we will miss him barely scratches the surface.
We will spend the rest of our lives honouring him: in heroic acts and quiet moments, in music and in the forest, on mountaintops and beside the sea, through fierce love and bold dreams.
Den is survived by his wife, Nicala Stacey; his parents, Ruth and John Stacey; his four beloved children—Madison, Maximilien, River, and Ella Stacey; his sister and brother-in-law, Stephany and David Aulenback; his niece and nephew, Sylvie and Luke Aulenback; and a wide, wild circle of friends and a large and loving family.
His celebration of life will be on Oct 31st, his birthday. For those that would like to share this day with us, the celebration will be from 4-7 on the lower floor, the upstairs with music and dancing from 7-11pm at the Esquimalt Gorge Park & Pavilion, located at 1070 Tillicum Rd, Esquimalt, BC V9A 2A1.
Please let me know if you’ll be attending and please feel free to send anything you feel called to share to [email protected]. We will be gathering stories and photos and music to share on this night and to keep him as close to us as we move forward.
