Born in Brownlee Saskatchewan, Donna and her family moved to Nanaimo and then to the Qualicum Beach area in 1948. She graduated from Qualicum High School in 1955 and then moved to Victoria to attend St. Joseph School of Nursing, graduating in 1958. While attending nursing school, she met Alvin Lewis and married in 1958. Together, they purchased a lot on Baker Street and built a house that became the family home for the next 65 years. Donna and Alvin started a family and she was a stay-at-home mom for their children’s early years. Eventually, Donna returned to work as nurse for Dr. Blouw. Donna unfortunately lost Alvin in 1989. She continued to work and retired in 1994. She then married Allan Hudson in 1994 until his passing in 2015.
In the early years she was an excellent athlete, participating in basketball and track and field. Donna was also an avid curler, which included bonspiels all over the province. She was a part of an elite group of curlers called “The Dragons”. During Donna’s retirement years, she enjoyed travel, golf and reading. In addition, Allan and Donna spent many winters as snowbirds in El Centro, California. Donna was fortunate to have a huge network of family and friends and with them, enjoyed boating (power and sail) fishing, skiing, travelling, dinners, and parties.
