Doug was born in Lethbridge and raised on the family farm near Monarch with his four siblings. His parents Everett and Nettie, his sisters Betty Mae, Jean and Linda, and his brother Donald all predeceased him.
From the ages of 16 to 19 Doug played professional AAA baseball. He then began a career in sales. In 1965 Doug and wife Dona moved to Cranbrook. They joined the Gyro Club, where they made many lifelong friends. Doug owned the John Deere industrial dealership in Cranbrook for 30 years. After retirement he enjoyed woodworking, fishing, golf and gardening. It was a devastating loss when his beloved wife Dona passed suddenly in November 2023.
In order to be near his daughters Doug moved to Victoria in July 2024. The team at Saanich Community Health Services did a wonderful job getting Doug settled and looking after his health care needs. Cathy and Carole would like to thank them, along with the staff and home support team at the Victorian at McKenzie for all the wonderful care Doug received. Thanks also to the staff at the Green Home in Cranbrook and Dr. Sarah Chesney for their care and assistance in the move.
Doug will be greatly missed by Cathy, Carole, Ryan and his numerous loving nieces and nephews.
There will be no funeral service at Doug’s request.
