Eileen passed away June 12, 2022, at Saanich Peninsula LTC, Saanichton BC, in her 94th year.
Eileen was born on August 3, 1928 to Jacob and Julia Ebell in Amulet, Saskatchewan. In 1937 the family left Saskatchewan and moved to Oak River, Manitoba, an area where her mother's family resided. Eileen attended school in Bradwardine, Roseneath and Oak River. She then completed her teaching certificate in Winnipeg. In October, 1948 Eileen married Russell Taylor Clark. She met her husband while teaching in Isabella, Manitoba. Here they began married life on the Clark family farm. They had 3 children, Brian, Don and Julie.
In 1973, Russell, Eileen and family left the farming community of Isabella and moved to Victoria, B.C. Here they cultivated a large group of friends and enjoyed golfing, curling, travelling, church activities, salmon fishing, gardening and games of bridge.
Eileen also very much enjoyed painting with watercolors and oil. Many of her paintings are now family treasures.
For many years, Eileen met with several women friends every Thursday afternoon for tea, goodies and conversation. They called themselves the Thursday Girl's. This was more of a social outlet for good friends to discuss the events of their lives. Eileen really enjoyed these gatherings and connections. These women were very supportive of each other and their families. The women I recall were Sheila, Catherine, Peggy, Allison, Thelma, Pauline, Jean and of course others whose names escape me.
In 1995 along came Teresa, the new neighbor next door. Eileen and Teresa became instant friends and were like two peas in a pod. This friendship was very much like a mother-daughter relationship. What a blessing this friendship has been for our mom all those years. Thank you Teresa for being such a devoted, loving friend to our mother.
Eileen is survived by her sons, Brian Clark, Dr. Donald Clark, daughter Julie (Pearse) Moroney and grandchildren Aisling (Philip) Moroney, Paul (Kelsi) Moroney, great grandchild Aoife Moroney, her brother, Dr. Lorne (Barbara) Ebell and sister Edie Evans.
She was predeceased by her husband Russell (2001), friend and companion Lockart Fulton (2005) and parents Jacob (1981) and Julia Ebell (1983).
Eileen's family were the pride and joy of her life and we are grateful for her life with us. The legacy of Eileen's kind spirit, passion for life, love of friendships and the many ways she brightened the lives of others, will live on through the memories of those lives she touched. She truly did enjoy her life, her faith, her family and her friends. This angel on earth will be dearly missed.
Our dear mother would love to share this poem with you.
A Little Step Away
To close the eye, to fall asleep,
To draw a labored breath,
To find release from daily cares
In what we know as death...
Is this the crowning of a life,
The aim or end thereof?
The totaled some of consciousness,
The ripened fruit of love?
It cannot be, for works of God
Are wrought for nobler ends,
And those away continue on
In the hearts of kin and Friends.
It cannot be, for they live on
A little step away.
The soul, the everlasting life,
Has found a better day....
