Betty is predeceased by her parents, Dmytro (Mike) and Alexina (Ina) Sniatkowski, and her husband Peter Pellaers. She is survived by her dear sons Robert (Susan) and Jason (Stacey), brother Ted (Elaine), her partner Bob, grandchildren Amelia, Justin, James, and Megan, along with several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and several very dear friends.
Betty was born February 20, 1947 in Dundee, Scotland. Her family immigrated to Canada in 1955 when Betty was 8 years old and made their home in Winnipeg. Betty attended Immaculate Heart of Mary School and Sisler High School. After graduation, she went into nursing school through the Victoria General Hospital, where she made many life-long friends. Betty met Peter and they were married on August 3rd, 1968. They had their sons Robert and Jason and made their home in North Kildonan, eventually moving to East St. Paul, where they built a new home. Betty stayed home while her sons were small and then started at Mount Carmel Clinic, where she worked as a triage nurse until her retirement.
Betty and Peter dreamed of retiring together to Victoria, BC, but Peter passed away in December of 2004. Betty did eventually make it to Victoria, retiring there in 2008. She loved living on the Island, and visited two of her favorite places, Butchart Gardens and Sidney-by-the-Sea, as often as possible. Betty loved to travel, enjoying trips to Hawaii and river cruises in Europe with Bob, as well as back to Manitoba and Vancouver to visit the grandchildren. Betty was a loving Granny to all her grandchildren and will be deeply missed by them.
In recent years, Betty became involved in volunteering, both with compassionate care programs through her Church and doing grocery shopping for the elderly. She loved travel, spending time with friends and family, reading, shopping, good chocolate, and nothing more than a good cup of hot tea.
In accordance with her wishes, Betty has been laid to rest at First Memorial Garden of Memories, 4725 Falaise Drive, in her beloved Victoria, BC.
As it is said in Betty’s favorite song: “Que sera, sera, whatever will be, will be, the future's not ours to see... que sera, sera”.
