Esther was born on a farm in Saskatchewan to Jacob and Helena Hamm in 1923. She grew up to marry a farmer, Pete Unger, in 1949. Besides farming and raising two sons, Pete and Esther were very active in their church, in summer Bible Camps, and in Millar Memorial Bible Institute in Pambrun, Saskatchewan. In 1986 mom and dad sold the farm and moved to Abbotsford, B.C. Dad died seven months later, and after mom regained her balance she traveled the world and served as a cook on several overseas mission trips. She didn't slow down until the last few years of her life.
Esther is predeceased by her parents, Jacob and Helena Hamm, son Lester, husband Pete, brothers Jake, Pete, and John Hamm, and daughter-in-law Anne (Dayrle).
She is lovingly remembered by her brothers Dave (Donna), Abe (June), George (Marion), sister Rosella, son Dayrle, daughter-in-law Karen (Lester), grandchildren Shayne and Sherri (Dayrle and Anne), Cameron and Tyler (Lester and Karen), as well as seven great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Her whole life she looked for Jesus to come back, and then, as the years accumulated, she began to say "I'm looking for the upper taker, but I might have to settle for the undertaker". Well, she has settled for the undertaker, but that does not matter to her now, for those who love The Lord and look for His return, the end result is the same.
A funeral will be held at Grace Baptist Church of Victoria on Thursday, December 1, 2022 at 2:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Tribal Trails (Northern Canada Evangelical Mission), of Millar College of the Bible.
