Gene Morrison passed away on July 18, 2024 at 85 years of age. Predeceased by his loving wife Elsie (ZILKE) and daughter Barbara MORRISON, parents Jack and Elsie MORRISON and three brothers Bill, Jim and Dave MORRISON. He leaves behind his adoring family, daughters Donna KENT (Brian), Cindy LEHMAN (Robin), his cherished grandchildren, Charlean JACKSON (Rob), Jon LEHMAN (Amber), grandson's Ryan and Quinn KENT, and great grandson Jonny LEHMAN, who loved their Papa so very much. Gene also leaves behind dear brothers and their wives Jack (Marg), Bob (Margie), Stan (Betty) and Phil MORRISON, as well as, many nieces, nephews, and their families.
Gene grew up in the lower mainland and always considered the New Westminster farm and later living in Fort Langley his homes. After marriage he moved to Prince George where he worked along side his father and many of his brothers in construction. Gene moved his family to Victoria in the early ‘60s. He wore many hats in the construction business and worked for some of the best and well-respected businesses as a lather, drywaller and, later as a business owner of an acoustic ceiling business. Gene’s craftsmanship is evident in many schools, commercial buildings both in town, up island and throughout BC.
Gene accepted a position as the apprenticeship instructor for the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America and its locals. This position also had him on the road travelling year-round teaching the apprenticeship program on drywall, steel stud and acoustical ceiling installation. He was extremely well respected in all fields due to his hard work, great skill and dedication.
Over the years Gene had many hobbies. They ranged from dabbling in CB radios, motorcycle riding, as well as his love of fishing and his passion which was golf. Gene was featured in The Colonist newspaper for landing a 45-pound Chinook salmon. It was at the same time as The Colonist fishing derby. He didn't win the derby because he wasn't a Colonist subscriber but, he still had bragging rights forever, because he caught a huge and beautiful salmon. Gene spent countless hours at Cedar Hill Golf Course both working, playing and enjoying the many friends he made. Later in life he found doing puzzles a great way to pass the time and going to the casino.
Gene had a full life filled with love and laughter. He was an absolutely wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. We all miss him so very much.
