It is with great sadness we share that George passed away peacefully at Victoria Hospice after a brief aggressive bout with cancer. Born in Didsbury, AB the 5th of 9 children of Maria and Peter Goossen. He was a typical prairie boy playing hockey in the winter and baseball in the summer. In 1951 he joined the RCN and had a long and interesting career. In 1959 he married Colleen Stone and they lovingly raised a son and two daughters. They enjoyed camping holidays, the trips back and forth across Canada and many family gatherings. The grandchildren enriched his life and he loved them dearly. Left to treasure his memory are his wife Colleen, son David (Shana), daughters Stephanie (Tony) and Tanya (David) and their families; as well as his siblings Jacob, Anne, Agnes & Mary; nephews and nieces; and dear friends. Rest in peace, George, Dad, Grandpa, after a life well lived! Don’t worry, we’ll guard the fort!
A Service of Remembrance will be held at Cadboro Bay United Church on Saturday, March 17th at 2pm.
