Gordon passed away peacefully in Victoria on May 22, 2021. He was predeceased by his wife of 54 years, Janet, in 2006 as well as his son, Bill, in 2016. He was also predeceased by his sisters, Mary Holt and Freda Brown. Gordon is survived by his children John, Gordie (Kaetlon), Cathy (Don), Dennis (Sharina), and Janet (Anthony), plus seventeen grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Born in Calgary, Gordon spent his early years on the family farm in McMurdo, BC before moving to Victoria at age twelve. In his late teens, Gordon began his career in carpets, first, as an installer, then in sales before advancing into management. For just over half a century, this was his livelihood, and at least forty of those years were with Jordans.
Gordon’s one true love was his wife, Janet, followed closely by labrador retrievers, retriever trials, and golfing, most of which he played as a long-standing member of Uplands. Gordon also enjoyed bird hunting in Rolling Hills, Alberta; observing wildlife; and in his later years, helping friend, Dave, harvest kiwi fruit on his farm. Gordon may have left the farm as a child, but the farm never left him.
Sports enthusiast and music lover, Gordon was independent and social until the end. He maintained old friendships, talked fondly of those no longer with us, and welcomed new friends in later years, especially, Marjorie.
A memorial service will be planned at a later date. Donations in Gordon's honour can be made to one of his favourite charities: the ALS Society of BC and the Canadian Cancer Society.
