Howard Allan Chase, Captain of our family passed away on July 17, 2018, aged 76, at Saanich Peninsula Hospital after a short fight with cancer. Born in Winnipeg, Howard decided early on that a career in aviation would be just the thing. After paying for flying lessons by working as a passenger agent with Air Canada, he began his flying career immediately after marrying his beloved co-captain Allison in 1967. From there a blessed life ensued with children Lindsay and Susan (d. 2014), cocker spaniels, adventures in travel, boating and lots of cycling. Howard was a devoted husband and dad affectionately called g.o.d. (good old dad), and an incredible brother, friend, uncle, cousin and colleague. He was known as a gentleman and an all-around great guy with highly polished Dack’s shoes, gut-bustingly funny stories, a killer martini recipe and an easy laugh. His standard greeting of friends coming by was an offer of a “child’s portion”. He was also a consummate professional, spending 42 years with Air Canada followed by another 12 years as a flight instructor consultant. His final years were spent exploring the pacific northwest by boat and travelling with Allison. His final words were of love for family and the amazing life he’d led. Allison and Lindsay would like to thank Dr. Phillips, Dr. Lewis and Dr. Troutan for their exceptional care. And special thanks to the nursing staff in the palliative care ward, especially Maggie. We have a Howard/Dad sized hole in our hearts, and a lifetime of happy memories to ease the ache. A Celebration of Life will be held on August 11, 2018 at 2:00 pm at the Mary Winspear Center in Sidney, BC.
