

After a brief intense struggle with cancer Ian peacefully passed away on December 7, 2022 surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his wife Gladwyn, children Jim (Cathy), Paul (Brenda), Debbie (David), Penni (Simon), 10 grandkids, 4 great-grandkids his sister Win Pedersen, 4 nephews, 2 great-nieces and 3 great nephews.
Ian attended Oak Bay High School and graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce from UBC in 1958. In 1960, Ian was admitted to the Institute of Chartered Accountants of BC and went on to become a partner in the firm now known as Grant Thornton. In addition to his accounting and tax practice Ian was heavily involved in the education of future members of the profession, serving as a member and Chairman of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants Board of Examiners and the Chairman of the Interprovincial Education Committee Institute over a period of ten years. In recognition of his outstanding service to the profession, Ian was made a Fellow of the Institute in 1976. After a very rewarding and distinguished career Ian retired in 1996.
Over his lifetime he enjoyed sports, fishing, travel and creating memories at his summer cabin on Hornby Island, which was built in 1977, with his family and friends.

A a celebration of life for Ian will be held Friday, December 16, 2022 at 2:00 PM at First Memorial Funeral Services, 4725 Falaise Drive, Victoria, British Columbia V8Y1B4.
