

James (Jim) Fathers, age 83, passed away in Saanich Peninsula Hospital Palliative Care Unit on December 12, 2025. Our thanks to the extraordinary doctors, nurses and staff of the Palliative Care, Medical and Emergency units of the Saanich Peninsula Hospital for their kindness, compassion and very dignified care.
Jim met his wife Sandy in Ottawa, Ontario while playing in a squash tournament. They married in 1982. Jim strongly supported Sandy’s career and when in 1988, she was offered a job in Victoria, BC he left his job in Ottawa and joined her in Victoria in 1989.
Jim is survived by his sister Joan. Jim will be remembered by his sister-in-law Sue, his best friend John and his nephew Steven.
Jim enjoyed many interests and hobbies throughout his life. Photography, sailing, and cross-country skiing to name a few. He loved woodworking and construction. Two of his proudest accomplishments were the renovation of their 1913 home in Victoria and the rebuilding of a 19-foot travel trailer for their travels with their dogs.
Jim’s lifelong passion was dogs. A passion that he and Sandy shared. After his retirement he trained, competed and just had fun with his beloved Kerry Blue Terriers in Obedience, Flyball, Agility and Rally-O.
At Jim’s request, no service will be held. Jim’s ashes will be interred at First Memorial in Saanich, BC. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Saanich Peninsula Hospital & Healthcare Foundation in Jim’s memory.
