ANNA (JEAN) GERRARD (nee VALLEAU)

December 29, 1925 ~ February 9, 2018

Born in Melfort, Saskatchewan, Jean will be sadly missed and is survived by her brother Don (Anne) Valleau of Nipawin, Saskatchewan; sons Greg (Ahling) Gerrard and Jerry (Rosslyn) Gerrard; daughters Janet Gerrard (Rod Primeau) and Judy (Paul) Johnstone; grandchildren Ben (Kari) Bodnar, Beth Bodnar, Jon Gerrard, Sabrina Scullion (Andrew Cosgrove), Darcy Scullion, Justin (Megan) Shaw, Carla Shaw (James Cadwallader), and Courtney (Chunpreet) Hayre; and thirteen great-grandchildren. Jean was predeceased by her husband Gerald Kenneth Gerrard; daughter Lorie Jean Gerrard; and five siblings.

Jean and Gerald moved to Vancouver Island in 1957, where she worked as a hairdresser for many years. She loved to dance and had a love for life. Her infectious laugh and great sense of humour will be missed by many! Jean had a passion for china painting, knitting, and crocheting, and taught classes in china painting and ceramics. She was very proud of her creations, and her talent won her first place with some of her artistry. Jean was an avid card player (who was often accused of cheating) and loved playing tile rummy with anyone who would dare to challenge her. She loved watching her grandson Justin play football and hardly missed a game. She also watched the Blue Jays play baseball and loved watching curling, and could often be found shouting at the TV during sportscasts as the official "couch coach." Jean touched our lives in innumerable ways, and we will miss the woman we knew as mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend.

Special thanks to Dr. Wayne Demott, and Nurses Amanda and Dana, in the fourth floor Acute Care Ward of the Royal Jubilee Hospital, for making Jean's final days as comfortable as possible.

A celebration of life will be held on Friday, February 23, 2018, at 2:00 p.m., at First Memorial "Garden of Memories," 4725 Falaise Drive, Victoria, BC. Flowers graciously declined. In Jean's memory, please consider donating to a charity of your choice.
