Jean Maretta Newton

In loving memory of Jean Maretta Newton who passed away on June 25, 2023 at the age of 93. She was born and raised in Hull, England. She worked at Jacksons Grocery in Hull, married Alan and had one son (Gary 1955) before immigrating to Calgary, Canada in 1957. Her second son (Stephen 1961) was born in Calgary. She worked at Canada Safeway in the head office for many years while caring for her family. Jean remained unsettled in her adopted home and in 1969 returned with her family to Hull. After 7 months they realized that it was too difficult to resettle in Hull with the family returning to Calgary in 1970. Soon thereafter they all became Canadian citizens.

Jean made several trips back to England over the years to visit family and there were also visits to Canada made by her English family. Jean retired from the Calgary Parks and Recreation in 1996 and eventually moved to Victoria, BC in 1999 with Alan and Stephen enjoying to enjoy the milder English like climate and ambiance of the James Bay area.

Jean was predeceased by her parents (England) Kathleen & Arthur and husband Alan (2021); and will be deeply missed by her sister (England) Doretta; and two sons Gary and Stephen.
