Born on December 5, 1943, in Richmond, BC, to Ottile and George Betker, Jerry was the youngest in a large farming family. He built a fulfilling 40-year career with Canada Safeway, where he met Joan, his wife of over 58 years.
Jerry is lovingly remembered by Joan, his children James (Dina), John (Marie-Claude), and Wendy (Matt), and his cherished grandchildren Isabel, Moyra, and Ellie.
In 2002, Jerry and Joan retired to Mayne Island, where he dedicated himself to community service. A devoted member of the Lions Club Canada, he served tirelessly and ultimately as president. As a park board commissioner, he played a key role in the development and care of Dinner Bay Park, and the building and preservation of the cook shack for community gatherings. He was especially proud of bringing disc golf to the park and took great joy in seeing others enjoy the space.
Jerry’s legacy lives on in the many community projects he championed, leaving a lasting impact on those who had the privilege of knowing him.
A small private gathering will be held at a later date to honor Jerry’s memory.
