(January 9, 1929 - April 30, 2016)
After 87 years of sharing her smiles, laughter and love with family and friends alike, Kath McCormick moved on to be reunited with her loving husband and soul mate, Andy, on April 30th, 2016, in Victoria, British Columbia. Adored wife of Andrew (1946-1997), daughter of Madeline (Bassett) and D. Arthur Pinkney, sister of Gwen Pinkney (2010), sister-in-law to Donald (Diana) McCormick, and beloved Aunt Kath to Kelly (Joseph Day) and Jamie (JoAnne), her zest for life lives on in the smiles of her great-nephews and niece, Simon, Kieran, Spencer and Kyla. Kath’s many wonderful friends were her family as well, especially Dr. Karen Cronin and her daughter Anne Woods (Toronto), Deborah Snider (Kitchener), Dr. Drew Bowles (Toronto), Bonnie Lewis (Victoria), as well as her dear nursing friends worldwide. Kath will always be remembered for her sharp wit, stories of her nursing years, her love of socializing over good wine and food, crosswords and the many dogs and cats who filled her heart and warmed her lap. Kath's name will forever elicit warm smiles from family and friends in New Zealand, as well as Heintzman’s and MacGregors throughout Canada.
Born and raised on the north island of New Zealand, Kath was a dedicated nurse and midwife, working at TeKuiti Hospital in Auckland, St. Mark's Hospital in London, UK, and Kitchener Waterloo Hospital, in Ontario, where she and Andy started their life together. Andy and Kath would eventually relocate to BC, where they spent many special years before Andy's passing in 1997. Kath enjoyed her remaining years as an islander in Victoria, enjoying views of Mount Baker from her eighth floor apartment and her visits with Bonnie.
The family would like to thank the Victoria Community Palliative Care Service, Victoria Hospice, and especially Bonnie Lewis, for their wonderful care for Kath. Memorial donations can be made to the Victoria Hospice, BC SPCA or Canadian Cancer Society.
A Memorial Service and Celebration of Life will be held Sunday June 5, 2016 (1 to 4pm) at Langdon Hall, Cambridge, Ontario.
