It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Ann Elisabeth Heggen. After a long and courageous fight against cancer, Mary Ann passed peacefully in her sleep on August 14, 2024 with her husband, Ole Heggen at her side. She was born on September 6, 1950 in Port Arthur (Thunder Bay), Ontario. Here she spent her youth until later attending and graduating from the University of Guelph. Mary Ann then travelled out west to Victoria, BC, where she met and married Ole in 1976. Together they moved to Central Saanich and Brentwood Bay, BC, raising four children. An active participant in school and community sports associations, Mary Ann was always there in support of her family’s activities. Throughout her life, Mary Ann kept close, strong relationships with family and friends both old and new, spread out across the country and in distant lands. She enjoyed spending time working in the garden, music, sewing, preparing wonderful meals and walking our dogs with friends and family in the local parks and trails. Predeceased by her brother Kenneth Jr, mother Elizabeth and father Kenneth, Mary Ann is survived by her husband Ole, children Stephen (Hayley), Evan, Julia, Kimberley (Chris), grandchildren Erik, Freya, Michael, Kaitlyn, Hannah, brothers Jack (Helen), Duncan, Donald (Susan), sister-in-law Aileen and brother-in-law Kenneth. Mary Ann’s positive, cheerful outlook, her wisdom, and loving personality will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
