Melissa Louise Hudson née Harvey, born on the family farm in Sparta, ON on November 10, 1932, died peacefully in her sleep in the early morning hours of November 27, 2023, at her home at Amica on the Gorge in Victoria, BC.
Louise was predeceased by her parents Bill and Mildred (née Gregg) Harvey. She is survived by her brother, Bill Harvey of Orillia, ON, and daughters, Sandra (Steve McKinnon) of Victoria and Lisa (Rob Wyse) of Portugal. She is remembered by her grandchildren Seamus and Maeve Maguire, and their father Robert Maguire. Louise is also remembered by many nieces and nephews, her Harvey family cousins and several special young people, who knew her as Grandma Louise.
Louise attended school in Sparta and St. Thomas ON, before attending McMaster University in Hamilton for one year. She then studied and graduated from the nursing program at Victoria Hospital in London, ON, making lifelong friends amongst her classmates. Changing careers, Louise then became a stewardess for TCA, having to resign, because of airline regulations, when she married.
Motherhood was the next and favourite career for Louise, with the arrival of Sandra in 1964 and Lisa in 1965. The family lived in Toronto, with a brief stop in Ottawa, during those busy years.
In 1994, Louise made the decision to join Sandra in Victoria and remained for the rest of her life. Louise loved her life in Victoria, especially spending time with Seamus and Maeve. First Metropolitan United Church was Louise’s church home in Victoria, where she made many close friends, and where she was very active in Healing Touch and other activities. Louise enjoyed winters at her home in Scottsdale AZ, for over a decade. She loved travel and especially enjoyed special trips with Lisa and Sandra over the years.
Louise will be remembered for her loyalty to her friends and family, her kindness, her sense of humour and her great sense of style.
Donations in Louise’s memory can be made to the Canadian Red Cross or the BC SPCA.
A Memorial Service is being planned for 2024.
