Born in Janiuay, Millie was the eldest daughter of Ines and Delfin Pojol Sr. She carried this role with quiet strength and deep devotion throughout her life. She was predeceased by her brother, Delfin Jr., whom she lovingly laid to rest in October, a reflection of her enduring commitment to family. She is survived by her three brothers.
Millie pursued her calling at St. Paul University Iloilo, where she trained and graduated as a registered nurse. Her compassion and dedication to caring for others shaped not only her career, but the way she lived her life. In 1964, she moved to Minnesota through a student exchange program at the Mayo Clinic. Alongside fellow nurses she had worked with in a health facility at a pineapple plantation in Del Monte, she began a new chapter far from home. In 1967, she settled in Victoria, where she built a life grounded in resilience, community, and care.
Throughout her nursing career, Millie served in a variety of roles. She began as a ward nurse at St. Joseph’s Hospital, later specializing as a member of the IV Team, and went on to work in the Mother-Baby Unit at Victoria General Hospital, where she eventually retired. She was known for her steady hands, her compassion, and her unwavering dedication to her patients and colleagues.
Millie was also one of the founding members of the Victoria Filipino Community Association, helping to build a sense of connection and belonging for many in the community.
In 1984, Millie purchased the house that would remain her home for decades, a place filled with warmth, memories, and love, and where she ultimately spent her final moments.
Beyond her work and community contributions, Millie found joy in life’s simple and meaningful pleasures. She loved gardening, cooking, and sewing, expressions of her care, creativity, and generosity that she shared with those around her.
Millie will be remembered for her strength, her nurturing spirit, and her unwavering devotion to family and community. Her journey from Iloilo to North America, from nurse to matriarch, leaves a legacy of courage, sacrifice, and compassion that will not be forgotten.
She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
A funeral service will be held on March 27 at 2:30 p.m. at St. Andrew’s Cathedral, followed by a reception at the Bayanihan Community Centre on Blanshard Street from 3:30 to 6:00 p.m.
