Born in Bush Hill Park, North London in 1925, Pat and her brothers, Peter and Geoffrey, had a very happy childhood.
At the start of the war, she was evacuated with her school to Chaddesley Corbett in the Midlands. Pat later moved to Bath to re-join her parents and began training as a naval draftsman with the British Admiralty.
After the war, she immigrated to Canada and worked as a draftsman for Bell Telephone in Toronto. Her husband, Adam Vrooman, a member of the Canadian army, was transferred to Wainwright, Alberta with the Army engineers.
A few years later Adam retired from the army and the family moved to Kitimat, BC. where they settled for the next 19 years and raised their four children, Michael, Vicki, Adam, and Jane.
A final move brought Pat and Adam to Victoria, where Pat took a UVic course in library science. She joined the staff at St. Margaret’s school and worked there for many years making many good friends.
After retirement, Pat and Adam enjoyed travelling widely. Pat volunteered for Heart and Stroke, enjoyed 55 plus and participated in classes at the Commonwealth Rec Centre while watching her 7 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren grow up.
Pat was predeceased by her husband Adam, son Michael and son-in-law Edward and is survived by her daughter Vicki, her son Adam (Marea) and daughter Jane (Ian), and all the grand and great grandchildren.
Pat enjoyed her last 7 years at Berwick Royal Oak with several long-term friends and a very caring staff.
She will be deeply missed by her family. She requests no service and in lieu of flowers, the family invites you to make a donation to Dee’s Orphan Kitten Fund (www.deesorphans.com)
