Peter Kenneth Jones passed away on July 18, 2024 at the Royal Jubilee Hospital. He is predeceased by his parents Kenneth and Molly Jones. Peter will be deeply missed by his loving wife, Hideko; his daughters Sara (Joe) and Rumiko (Justin); his three grandchildren Raffaele, Lily and Isla; his twin sister Susan; and nieces Kathy (Gerry) and Darcy (Gord).
Peter was born in London, England before he moved to Canada when he was 11 years old. He worked as a lighting technician for the CBC before he began his career with the BC Government as an arbitrator in the residential tenancy branch and then as an inspector in the liquor and control licensing branch for over 30 years before his retirement.
In his spare time, he enjoyed reading, photography, volunteering, theology and meaningful conversations with family and friends. He had a great many interests over the years in which he approached with determination and enthusiasm.
In his early years, he was an avid cyclist and camper with a strong love of the outdoors. At the Oak Bay Marina, he had a row boat docked and enjoyed rowing around the Marina and to Mary Todd Island. In his later years, he developed an appreciation for technology and enjoyed collecting various tech gadgets. He was often seen having coffee at Starbucks with his kindle and enjoyed chatting with his coffee group friends. A special mention to his cherished friend John, who he shared lunch with regularly and spoke of fondly.
As a devoted Catholic, he enjoyed being involved with his church and supported those in need. He received his Associates in Theology and volunteered to teach theology and Catholicism courses for six years at Saint Andrew’s Cathedral. Every weekend, he volunteered his time at St. Vincent de Paul and helped in the food pantry. He also delivered the Eucharist (blessings) to residences of care homes.
He volunteered at the Queenswood property of St. Ann’s Residence to restore and enhance the Mary Garden. From pulling out Rhododendrons, installing archways and benches, laying gravel pathways and planting numerous plants and flowers, he proudly spent countless hours over many years working hard to create a beautiful environment for persons on retreat or visitors to have a quiet place to pray, read or sit in silence.
Over the years, he compiled a collection of quotations which he felt related to situations that affect our daily lives. His family and friends are grateful for this effort which leaves us with many of his thoughts on life and the world around us.
Peter will always be remembered for being a loving and supportive family man and dog lover. He is now reunited with his many beloved dogs, particularly, Kelo and Taro. We will love and miss him dearly. May he rest in peace. God Bless.
A private family gathering will be held to celebrate his life. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to The Alzheimer Society of Canada or St. Vincent de Paul.
Psalm 23: The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.
