

Born in Nelson, June 26th, 1925. Died in Victoria, BC, July 17th, 2016. After graduating from UBC as a Mechanical Engineer, he enjoyed a wonderful career with the Royal Canadian Navy, including postings on both coasts and in Quebec. He retired in Victoria with the rank of Commander and spent many years travelling Canada and the world.
He enjoyed a long association with the Victoria Lapidary and Mineral Society, serving as president and as chairman of the Hobby Show, and as long time Chairman of the Field Trip Committee. People will remember him as a dedicated family man, a gentleman, and a wonderfully warm person.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Mary Isabel (Molly), and his step daughter Margaret Hallam, and survived by his second wife, Nancy Anabel Roberts. He will be sorely missed by his loving daughters, Janis Roberts and Nancy Williams (Steve), and by his stepsons, John Kaplan (Heather) and Robert Kaplan, as well as grandchildren and step grandchildren; Sophie Roberts, Gwen, and Robin Williams, Maery, Luna, and Gordon Hallam, and Graham and Nelson Kaplan. Many other family and friends were an important part of Dick and Nancy's life, especially Mark and Bev Hallam, Julie Dawson and all the caring staff at the Lodge at Broadmead.
