Born in Victoria, he attended Doncaster Elementary, Lansdowne Junior High and Mount View High School. Bob spent his entire working life in downtown Victoria, including more than 35 years at the corner of Yates and Government Streets at Field’s Shoe Store. He deeply loved his Oaklands Chapel church family, where he served faithfully as an elder, music leader, children’s choir director, and puppeteer. He also volunteered at Camp Imadene (Maple Bay and Mesachie Lake) from his teenage years onward - any activity that included water balloons was his favourite!
Bob was the fourth child of Victor and Mae Gill. He is survived by siblings, Monte (Sylvia), Barry (Marilyn), Maureen, sister-in-law Penny, Judy (Rob), and Sheila (Dave) and predeceased by Janice, Dennis and brother-in-law, Paul. He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 58 years, Lynda; daughter Shannon (David); son Kevin (Lorilee); and much-adored grandchildren Caleb, Kahlan, Hosea, Hannah and Adi. It was not unusual to find him on the floor building legos or setting up a train track with his grandkids. He is also remembered by extended family, including Tracy and Don, along with many cousins, nieces, nephews, one great-aunt and life-long friends.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to Mount St Mary Hospital for their loving and compassionate care over the past 3 years.
If desired, in lieu of flowers, donations to Camp Imadene (www.imadene.com) or the Alzheimer Society (alzheimerbc.donorsupport.co) would be gratefully appreciated.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Friday, January 9, 2026 at 1:00 pm at Mosaic Oaklands Chapel, 2736 Fernwood Road, Victoria.
