It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Sheldon Nickel on July 26, 2024. Born in Hepburn, Saskatchewan in 1939, Sheldon lived a life full of hard work and dedication to his family. In 1978, he moved from Chilliwack to Victoria, BC, where he settled down and spent the remainder of his years. A skilled mechanic, Sheldon owned and operated two Texaco stations in Maple Ridge and Burquitlam, BC. He later worked for the Motor Vehicle Branch for 32 years before retiring at the age of 57.
Even in retirement, Sheldon continued to embrace his love for building and creating. On his cherished property on Pender Island, he enjoyed using his mechanical skills to construct and tinker, always finding joy in making and fixing things. Sheldon was a devoted husband to his loving wife, Beth, and a proud father to his children: Gord (Anne), and Joanne (Craig). His legacy of love, great strength and creativity will carry on in his grandchildren: Brianne, Garrett and Camryn.
Sheldon passed away peacefully on his own terms, surrounded by immediate family. Forever in the driver's seat. He will be deeply missed but remembered always.
At Sheldon’s request, there will be no service. The family will have a private celebration of his life at a later date.
