It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Steve on July 25, 2017. He will be sadly missed by his mother Anna Vanderhorst, his father Bill Hamilton, step mom Ellen, his brothers, sisters, uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, friends and associates who were fortunate enough to have known him. Stevens great sense of humor will be deeply missed by all.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, August 5 at 10am at First Memorial Funeral Services, 4725 Falaise Drive Victoria, BC.
Steve was born and raised in Victoria where he played soccer and baseball in his younger years. Then shortly after leaving school he began his trade as a drywaller with Gordon & Gordon, where he learned his hard work ethics. He moved to Edmonton and stayed for a few years before returning to Victoria to work for Swiftsure. While there, he got an offer for a job in Bermuda where he went with friends Ted and Deagan and had great fun for 4 1/2 years, with family visiting him there. (they also had great laughs!) He missed the family, so back to Victoria he came, where he commuted back and forth from Edmonton but it was too much travelling. So once again was hired by Swiftsure and worked for a time and then off to Edmonton again in February 2016.
In March of 2017 he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, which had metastasized to other vital organs, so he returned to Victoria on April 30 to be with his family and friends, where through his battle with the dreaded disease he still kept his wit and sense of humor but he still managed to squeeze in a few fishing trips and a game of golf. A blood clot in his leg hindered him as his feet and legs ballooned up. Steve was also a very talented artist and cartoonist, loved his model cars, plane making and flying.
He was a well loved man and a true blue friend, wonderful son, brother and uncle, we will all deeply miss our Steve forever.
The family have asked if anyone has any photos of Steven to kindly bring them to the celebration of life to share.
