Thomas passed away from heart failure last week at the Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria. He is pre-deceased by his wife, Kathleen, and his son, Gregory. He is survived by his son, Craig (Jodi), his daughter, Andrea, his grandchildren Layne and Avery and his brothers John and Len.
Thomas was born on in 1932 in a small mining village in Lanchester, England. He was intelligent and ambitious and he created a full and rich life for himself. He met and married Kathleen in 1959 while he was in the Royal Navy and stationed in Portsmouth. He then moved to Canada to join the Royal Canadian Navy and build a new life. He was married for 56 years before Kathleen passed, and together they had three children: Gregory (deceased), Craig and Andrea. They travelled extensively over the years, having wonderful experiences and marvelous adventures.
Thomas excelled in his profession. He spent 14 years in the Royal Navy and 17 years in the Royal Canadian Navy. After retirement from that profession, he went on to work at Royal Roads and BC Ferries. And he had fond memories of both.
He loved good food, opera, soccer (football) and reading. He had a very keen mind to the last and we are all grateful for that, and also for his extremely original sense of humour. He will be missed by his family and friends.
There will be a memorial wake for Thomas on Friday 25th of August at 6:00pm at his home.
A donation in Thomas’ memory may be made to a charity of your choice.
