It is with profound grief and heartache that we share our sudden loss of Tobin Hunter Meyer McLarty. My most precious son passed away late in the night of October 21st, 2024 in a tragic motor vehicle accident at Aqua Terra Road Intersection on the Trans Canada Highway in Cassidy, BC at the tender age of 19 years.

Tobin was born in Victoria, BC to his loving mother, Melissa McLarty (nee Meyer), on September 13th 2005. He is also survived by 3 siblings: Teyka McLarty, Soul McLarty and (stepsister) Ayla McLarty; his aunt Nicole Meyer (Ben Smith); his grandparents and extended family as well as the many friends he made throughout his lifetime – especially his cherished soulmate, Sasha.

Tobin was blessed with many talents and passions. He loved the outdoors and from his first drop into the bowl at the Sparwood Skatepark to his first BMX bike, Tobin always went big and had no fear on wheels. He honed his skills and garnered fame on his many bikes and many broken skateboards. Later in life, he enjoyed snowboarding in Fernie. He attended The Fernie Academy and Sparwood Secondary School before completing (and winning a silver in skills) at Chemainus Secondary School in Carpentry.

He adored his girlfriend Sasha and cherished everything about her. He greatly appreciated his friends, Austyn, Cayden, Steven and Kurtis, who all became like brothers. They had many adventures full of thrills. One story about chasing a bear on a Quad is (almost) unbelievable.

Tobin made friends everywhere he went including animals of all sorts. He was full of potential and was the finest son, best friend, brother, cousin, nephew, grandson we could ever have wished for.

Everyone is beyond thankful for the time we had with Tobin. He will forever be remembered for his passion and ability to thrive anywhere he chose to. From his beautiful dark hazel eyes that sparkled green in the sun to his mischievous grin, he will forever be imprinted in our hearts and minds.

We wish to acknowledge with gratitude for their care and professionalism and all their efforts on that awful night the Ladysmith RCMP, Cranberry Volunteer Fire Department and all responding agencies. Thank you for being there when families need you most.

A Memorial Celebration for Tobin’s life will be held at the private residence of Ben Smith & Nicole Meyer in Duncan, BC on Saturday, November 2nd, 2024 from 12-5pm. The Graveside Service laying Tobin to rest will be held later in the new year.

In honour of Tobin, please consider driving with caution and slowing down.
