Valerie passed away peacefully at the Heights at Mount View in Victoria at the age of 87 years, just shy of her 88th birthday. Born in Kelowna, British Columbia Valerie worked as a bank teller when she met the love of her life Howard Thornton. They were married in Vancouver in October 1955. Howard and Valerie then moved to Victoria and had two sons starting with George in 1957, followed by Philip in 1958. Valerie loved all things to do with Hawaii, having had the opportunity to travel there twice. When she was younger, Valerie loved her horse Pat, and loved cats throughout her life. Valerie was pre-deceased by her husband Howard in 2009, after 53 years of marriage. Valerie was also pre-deceased by her brothers John, Maurice, and sister Dorothy. Lovingly remembered by her sons George (Kathy), Phil (Charlayne), grandchildren Matthew (Ali) and Madalynn, and great grandson Cole.
