Adeline Hill Barefield was born on August 20, 1938, in Victoria, Texas, to Ireland Hill and Evelyn Ray. She transitioned this earthly life on April 27, 2026. Throughout her 87 years, she made a significant impact on many individuals, leaving behind a distinguished legacy of benevolence.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Morris Barefield, “The Singing Mortician,” whom we take comfort in knowing he welcomed her with, open arms. Walking through this season of sorrow, we find comfort in the memories they left behind.
F. W. Gross was the origin of her academic journey, which had a strong reputation for excellence in academics and athletics. She remained devoted to her alma mater, “The Gross BumbleBee.”
On July 4, 1958, Adeline professed her faith in Christ at Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, with Reverend W. A. Joshua presiding.
Adeline valued family, friendships, and the development of meaningful relationships. She consistently provided strength, encouragement, and reliable support to those around her.
Mrs. Barefield was a faithful pillar of the Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Vernon J. Garza. Carrying out the church’s vision was more than a commitment for her; it was a passion that she pursued in every role that she held, all for the edification of Christ. She held a variety of positions, including Church Membership Clerk, participant in Women’s Mission II, Youth Sponsor, member of the Senior Choir, Combined Choirs, and Women’s Chorus, as well as serving on the Program Committee. Her selfless dedication only ceased when she could no longer continue.
She leaves to cherish her memories with her devoted daughters: Janice McMurray (Fleming), Rhonda Davis (Charles), and Evelyn White (Jafus); her cherished grandchildren: Keysha Bradford (Eric), Gi’Zelle Davis, Shyra McMurray, Christopher McMurray, Charmayne Phillips, Edward Tisdom III, and Jafus White II; her beloved great-grandchildren: Caleb Bradford, Camille Bradford, Cydney Bradford, Johnathan Phillips, Jordyn Phillips, Jaycee and Jackson White and sister, Denise Hill James.
