Ann Vallery Herbst, age 78, of Victoria, Texas passed away on Friday, April 19, 2024. She was born July 14, 1945 in Longview, Texas to the late Stafford and Cleo Vallery. At 6 months old, her family moved to Plain Dealing, Louisiana. She graduated from Plain Dealing High School in 1963. After high school, she attending Louisiana Tech and graduated in 1967 with a Bachelor’s of Education. She continued her education and received a Master’s of Science from Louisiana Tech. She taught at Haughton High in Louisiana from 1969-1979. In the summer of 1979, she moved to Victoria, Texas. On June 14, 1987, she married Walter E. Herbst, whom she met while being a part of the Victoria Civic Chorus. She taught at Stroman from 1979-1989. While teaching at Stroman, she continued her education in Computer Math at the University of Houston-Victoria. She taught at the Victoria College from 1989 until her retirement in 1991. After she retired, she and her husband traveled the world. They went on cruises to the Caribbean and Alaska and traveled to Russia, Antarctica, Australia, Egypt, Africa, New Zealand, South America, Israel, Italy and Hawaii. She served on the Victoria Bach Festival Board for many years. She was a member of the choir and handbell choir at First United Methodist Church. She served in many areas at the church.
Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Stafford Vallery and Cleo Warren Chamlee; step-father, Buddy Chamlee; husband, Walter E. Herbst; daughter, Karen Lenore Herbst; brother, Stafford Vallery II; and granddaughter, Trinity Jade Huddleston.
She is survived by her children, Thomas (Thom) Herbst, Frank Lewis Herbst, Marc Monroe Huddleston (KT) and Vallery Ann Daugherty (Kevin); grandchildren, Micah Whitlock and Barak Whitlock, Justus Burnette, Sarah Alaine Rudolph, Zachary Walter Herbst, Christopher DeVos, Matthew Stewart, Elizabeth Parker, Caitlin Huddleston, Tabitha Vallery Daugherty (Eric), Cleo Daugherty, Tiberius Daugherty and Isabella Daugherty; and great-grandchildren, Carmen, Ailey, Rylee, Cameron, Krimson, Jack, Olivia, Jadin, Eden, Lily and Atticus.
Family and friends will gather for a visitation from 5-7 pm on Friday, April 26, 2024 at Colonial Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be held at 10am on Saturday, April 27, 2024 at First United Methodist Church, with Pastor Wade Powell officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers are Micah Whitlock, Barak Whitlock, Christopher DeVos, Matthew Stewart, Justus Burnette and Tiberius Daugherty.
