Anne lived a full life. She was born on August 16th, 1930 and raised in Kenedy, TX.
From living in a small town, to traveling the world, her most cherished memories were those with her family. She was an amazing daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. She never met a stranger in her 94 years.
She carried herself with grace, always holding her head high, a warm smile on her face and a story in her heart, ready to share laughter, wisdom, and memories with those she loved.
Anne found her strength and voice at a young age having moved to a two-bedroom house in Kenedy that she shared with her mother Gladys, father Fred, and her 8 siblings. She got her faith from her mom and feistiness from her brothers.
She always told stories about the great depression and WWII– where at 14, she had a summer job in Orange, TX working on the Naval base making and selling sandwiches for those serving. She was happy to contribute to the war effort.
After high school, Anne moved to San Antonio where she lived at Mrs. Millers’ boarding house while attending business school. She then started working as a switchboard operator for the City of San Antonio.
Anne met her future husband Bill Crockett at a dance at Bandera. They loved listening and dancing to all kinds of music, especially the big bands. They married in 1952 and moved to California for Bill’s career in the Air Force.
While in California, Anne went for an interview for the stenographer position with the District Attorney’s office. Originally, she was denied the position because the Judge said she lacked experience for the role… She quickly responded with “Sir, how will I ever get experience if no one will hire me!” He looked at her and said, “You’re absolutely right young lady, when can you start?”
Before leaving California in 1955, Anne and Bill had the opportunity to attend the opening day of Disneyland; in true Anne fashion, she was dressed very stylish with a white blouse and pencil skirt!
Anne and Bill moved to Oklahoma where she supported Bill through Medical School. They started their family in OKC, welcoming son James Scott and daughter Tracey Anne. After moving to Woodward, OK, they welcomed their third child, Gregory Anders. She enjoyed entertaining friends in their home, playing bridge and golfing. A dedicated Mom, she served as PTA president at 2 different schools at the same time.
Anne moved to Stillwater, OK as a single mother where she raised her children. There, she worked as a receptionist for several Ophthalmologists, attended Church and Bible studies, and continued to develop her relationship with God. Anne learned about different cultures from her neighbors, who were international students at OSU.
In the 1990’s she moved back to Victoria, TX to be closer to family. Here, she worked as a sales representative at Dillard’s and Dunlap’s until her retirement. She spent her later years enjoying time with her family and friends.
She loved to travel near and far, getting to experience multiple trips of a lifetime. She loved her trips to Peru, Mexico, Italy, France, England, and traveling across the United States. She enjoyed traveling with her family to the Hyatt Hill Country in San Antonio, where you could find her in the rocking chairs overlooking the lawn enjoying a glass of wine with her children, or floating the lazy river with her grandchildren. Memories that will last a lifetime.
Anne had a heart as big as the world around her. She was always there with a helping hand, a listening ear, and an open heart, offering kindness and support to everyone she met. Affectionately known as ‘Grannie Anne and Grannie Annie’ to many, she had a way of making everyone feel like family. Her greatest joy in life was being surrounded by the people she loved—family and friends who, in turn, cherished and supported her just as much.
Her warmth, generosity, and unwavering love will forever be remembered. As she so often did in life, may she dance, sing, laugh and now soar with the Angels in Heaven!
She is preceded in death by her son, James Scott Crockett; parents, Fred M. Kitchen and Gladys G. Jones; sisters, Geraldine Condron, Ruby Parks, and Gertrude Brown; brothers, Jack, Earl, Forrest, Calvin and James Kitchen; nephews Larry Brown and Rusty Kitchen; and brother in-law, Jim Crockett.
She is survived by her son and daughter, Gregory Anders Crockett (Michelle) and Tracey Anne Crockett Hines (Tony); daughter-in-law, Betty Crockett; grandchildren, Mike Crockett, Gabe Crockett, Kelly Crockett Long (Richard), Jake Crockett, Nick Brown (Alyssa), Noelle Crockett (Keenan), Leah Hempel (Trey), John Hines (Jaqueline) and Carolina Hines; great grandchildren, Isobel, Rose, Asher, Luke and Flora; and her many nieces and nephews; and countless friends.
