Carolyn P. Taggart, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 15, 2025, in Victoria, Texas, at the age of 92. Born on July 11, 1933, in Chicago, Illinois, Carolyn was raised in Roswell, New Mexico, by her devoted parents, James and Blanche Parkhill. She shared a joyful childhood with her sister, Judy Fronterhouse, and graduated from Roswell High School with pride and promise.
After marrying, Carolyn moved across the country before returning to Roswell, where she began her professional journey with Humble Oil and Refinery. This marked the beginning of a distinguished 35-year career in the energy industry, culminating in Houston, Texas, where she served as Executive Secretary to Lead Counsel at Exxon. Her dedication, intelligence, and grace earned her the respect of colleagues across the company.
Upon retirement, Carolyn embraced her lifelong passion for needlepoint and transformed it into a thriving second career. She purchased a small shop called Needlepoint Accent and, through vision and hard work, turned it into one of Houston’s premier destinations for needlepoint enthusiasts. Carolyn painted with thread, creating original and unique needlepoint artwork that reflected her creativity and precision. Her store became a beloved hub of artistry and community, where she taught classes, mentored others, and collaborated with world-renowned designers to develop custom stitch guides. Among her many artistic partnerships, Carolyn worked with renowned canvas artist Lee Designs, bringing their canvases to life through her exquisite stitch guides tailored for customers. Her talent and expertise earned her national recognition and a devoted following in the needlepoint world.
Even in death, Carolyn’s generosity continues to shine. Her extraordinary needlepoint pieces will be auctioned at Camp Allen, an Episcopal retreat center, with proceeds benefiting underprivileged children—a final act of love and compassion from a woman who gave so much to others.
Carolyn’s life was a testament to perseverance, elegance, and the joy of pursuing one’s passions. She was a woman of quiet strength and deep compassion, whose presence brought comfort and inspiration to all who knew her.
She is survived by her loving children, Steven Michael Taggart of Wichita Falls, Texas, and Terri Taggart of Victoria, Texas, as well as her cherished granddaughter, Jacqueline Taggart of Dallas, Texas. Her legacy lives on in their hearts and in the countless lives she touched through her work, her kindness, and her unwavering love.
“Her hands stitched beauty into the world, and her heart stitched love into ours.”
A private memorial will be held to celebrate Carolyn’s life and honor the beautiful memories she leaves behind.
