Delores Fritz Govro, age 92, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 22, 2025 in Temple, Texas, with her family at her side for her final 12 days. A big thank you to Mark and Joyce Fritz for being by her side and bringing her peace and comfort.
Delores grew up in Buckholts, Texas and graduated at age 16. She moved to Austin to attend college. At age 27, she owned her own home with white carpet, of course. She met her husband, Donald Govro, at age 27 and they were married for 55 years until his passing in 2018. They enjoyed many adventures: drag racing, fishing, shrimping, RV camping, and many fast cars throughout their lives. She was very independent and not afraid to try anything. She worked for many years as a bookkeeper for a trucking company. Later she managed Don's many businesses. They lived in Austin, Dripping Springs, Cedar Valley, Rockport, finally moving to Victoria in 2012. They joined the Golden Crescent Car Club.
Delores lived in her home for 91 years before her health began to fail. On September 2, 2024, she had aneurysm surgery in Houston and was hospitalized 25 days. For the last ten months she has been in and out of the hospital and Riverside Oaks where she never gave up on going home. She was a very determined lady all the way to the end. Dee transferred to Temple, Texas for a rehab facility but it was not to be because she was hospitalized for ten days. She was released and passed away two days later.
Delores was blessed with many friends who supported and cared for her daily in person or on the phone: Richard and Kathleen Ross, Pat and Modesto Lizcano, Helen Spivey, Laura Lockhart and Bill Schramek. A special thanks to her housekeeper and caretaker, Janet Aguilar. Dee had many adopted children throughout the years who continued to stay in contact with her.
Delores was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Govro; parents, Alvia Fritz and Laura Groppell Fritz; sisters, Opal Robinson and Ola Faye Bolieu; and her brother Valton Fritz. Delores is survived by her nephew, Mark Fritz (Joyce) and her niece, Kim Wilkinson (Bryan).
Visitation will be held Saturday, June 28, 2025 at 10:00 AM at Colonial Funeral Home, with funeral services beginning at 11:00 AM with Pastor John Hancock officiating. A light lunch will be provided from 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church. Burial will follow at 2:00 PM at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers are Richard Ross, Tim Spivey, Modesto Lizcano, Marvin Lockhart, Mark Fritz, Luke Fritz. Honorary pallbearers are Bill Schramek and Bill and Anna Schmidt.
