

Emily J. Buckert, 92, of Victoria, Texas passed away peacefully on July 28th 2017. She is preceded in death by her husband, H. Fred Buckert, sisters, Frances Patton, Mary Ohrt, Bessy Adams, and brother, Pat Smolik. She is survived by her children, Byron Buckert (Debora), Dr. Phylis B. Canion (Steve), Kai Buckert (Janet), and Vivian Boyd (David); seven granddaughters and two great-grandchildren, and extended family members, Ronnie Acosta and Del Staten. The family would like to thank the dedicated staff at Elmcroft Assisted Living of Victoria for their love and dedication.
Emily retired from the Victoria Advocate after more than 35 years, beginning at the front counter, then the society department and then editor of The Good Taste recipe column. She then authored three successful cookbooks, titled, The Good Taste Collection.
Emily and Fred would have celebrated 70 years of marriage on August 11, 2017.
Emily was a devout Catholic, graduated from Nazareth Academy, and was a lifelong member of St. Mary’s Church and a member of the Altar Society.
Pallbearers will be Byron Buckert, Kai Buckert, Steve H. Canion, David P. Boyd, Ronnie Acosta and Caleb Wilson. Honorary pallbearers will be Benjamin Forrest, Chris Schultz, Nathan Stephenson, Thomas Christiansen and Paddy McIlvoy.
A visitation will be held on Friday, August 11, from 5:00-7:00 pm, followed by a Rosary at Rosewood Funeral Home. A funeral mass will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church at 9:00 am, on Saturday, August 12, 2017. Burial will be held at Evergreen Cemetery. A social will follow for family and friends at St. Mary’s Hall.
