George Edward Wenzel, a cherished husband, father, friend, and man of deep faith, passed away peacefully on November 28, 2025 at the age of 86. His unwavering love for his family and his profound commitment to his community and faith have left an enduring mark on all who knew him. He freely shared his humor and kindness with everyone he met.
Born on August 15, 1939 in Needville, Texas, George was the beloved son of Casper and Judith Horak Wenzel.
Following graduation from high school, he joined the US Army. In addition to his “military orders”, George found time to organize a softball league during his time in Korea.
George was a dedicated professional, known for his leadership and business skills and his tireless work ethic. He started working in the wholesale beauty business in Corpus Christi and came to Victoria in 1976 to take over his aunt’s business. George then became an insurance agent for the Knights of Columbus for many years. He was a mentor and friend to those he encountered. In his retirement, he had the most diverse part-time jobs–from working collections for the Attorney General’s office to delivery of cars and odd jobs for the funeral home.
A man of profound faith, George was actively involved in Holy Family Catholic Church where he was a founding member. He was a charter member of the Knights of Columbus Council 9088 and honored to be inducted as a Knight of St. Gregory. Over time he served on numerous committees including the Holy Family Finance Committee; Grand Knight of KC Council 9088, and Church Festival Chair. He was particularly proud of the work that he contributed to the Readin’, ‘Ritin’, and Reelin’ Annual Fishing Tournament, which raised funds for Nazareth Academy Catholic School.
As busy as he was, he always found time for a game of dominoes. Thank you to the domino ladies at Vitality Court for letting Dad always keep score and surprisingly win.
George is survived by his wife, Roberta; his children, Kathy (Rob), Jeff (Lara), and Staci (Tom); his step-daughters Amy (James) and Joelle (Stephen); his ten grandchildren, Basil, Adelaide, Henry, Florence, Anna, Luci, Ella, Jake, Katie and Connor; great grandchild Olive; his sister, Debbie and his brother, Casper. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Nancy, his brother Donnie and his sister Genevieve.
The visitation and rosary will be held on Thursday, December 18, 2025 at Rosewood Funeral Chapel from 4:30-6:30 pm with a rosary to be recited at 6:30 pm. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2pm Friday, December 19, 2025 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Victoria with the Most Reverend Bishop Brendan J. Cahill officiating. The burial will take place at Davis Greenlawn Cemetery in Rosenberg at 11am on Saturday December 20,2025.
Serving as pallbearers will be Basil Wenzel, Adelaide Wenzel Henry Borowski, Florence Borowski, Anna Forshee, Luci Borowski, Ella Forshee and Jake Carter. Honorary pallbearers are Katie Crain and Connor Crain.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the renovation of the Nazareth Convent c/o St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council 9088 or Holy Family Catholic Church in George's memory.
We invite you to take a few moments to share fond memories and words of comfort and condolences with the Wenzel family. The family would like to thank the staff of Vitality Court for their care and Lara for always assisting and visiting George.
