

Hally Ballinger Bryan Clements, age 86, departed this life peacefully at her home in Victoria, Texas on January 9, 2011. She was born on May 27, 1924 in Houston, Texas to the late Guy Morrison Bryan and Florence Ella Carter. She is the great granddaughter of Emily Margaret Austin, sister of Stephen Fuller Austin.
Hally graduated from Vassar College in December, 1944, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics. While working for Humble Oil in accounting, she met her loving husband, Thurman Spencer Clements. They operated a successful cattle ranch in Canada for 15 years, returned to Kerrville in 1974, and eventually settled in Victoria to be close to family and friends.
She served on the boards of the Victoria Regional Museum Association, the Junior League and the Victoria Country Club. She was a founding member of the Court Appointed Special Advocates advisory board and was the matriarch of the Republican party of Victoria County. She served as a delegate to nearly every district and state Republican convention, and was elected to represent the State of Texas as a presidential elector in 2000.
She is predeceased by her husband, Thurman Spencer Clements; sisters, Carolyn Laura Bryan and her husband Frederick Roeck Thompson, Florence Carter Bryan and her husband Raymond Augustus Cook; brother, Guy Morrison Bryan, Jr.; her parents; and nephews Guy Bryan Thompson and Frank Bryan Cook, husband of Angie Prescott, and sister-in-law Betty Dickson Clements Fly and husband William.
She is survived by her three children, Thurman Spencer Clements, Jr., and his wife Teresa of Victoria, Hally Clements Hammack and her husband Jason of Inez, Lewis Dickson Clements, II, and his wife Pamela of College Station; and six grandchildren Robert Bryan Kontnier, Thurman Spencer Clements, III, Emily Ruth Clements, Lewis Dickson Clements, Jr., Stephen Morrison Clements, and Jacob Matthew Hammack. She is further survived by her nieces and nephews Carolyn Carter Thompson and husband Gwynne Old of Houston, Eleanor Thompson Cave of New Zealand, Florence “Cita” Cook of Atlanta, Georgia, Laura Neal Fly Bellows and husband Wayne of San Francisco, California, Lawrence Cook and wife Irene of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Stephen Cook and wife Allyson of Houston. She is further survived by her great nieces and great nephews Kathryn Thompson Maxwell and husband Thomas, Ashley Morrison Fraser and husband Christopher, Carolyn Heather Morrison, Carter Andrews Old and wife Henley, Kimberly Wragge Sumner and husband Matt, Melissa Wragge Fletcher and husband Wayne, Christopher Ingleby Wragge, Ballinger Thompson Wragge, Carrie Cook Mick, Bryan A. Cook, Robert L. Cook, Samantha L. Cook, Crosby P. Cook, Stephen D. Cook, and Elizabeth Cook Jenkins. She is further survived by six great, great nieces and seven great, great nephews.
The family will receive visitors at their home, 595 Conti Lane, from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM on Tuesday, January 11, 2011. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, January 13, 2011 at Trinity Episcopal Church with the Rev. Bur Dobbins officiating. Private grave side services will be held by the family. A wake will begin at 5:00 PM Thursday at the family’s home. Pallbearers are Hally’s grandchildren. Honorary Pallbearers are Gervais and Sue Bell, Bitty Crain, Elizabeth Greeson, Geanie Morrison, Mary Carol McCan, Louise “Weasie” Neuhaus, Morgan O’Connor, Fairfax Randall, Martita Seeligson, Liela Shannon, Virginia Welder, and Pansy Yturria.
