Janie C. Gutierrez, a strong and hard-working woman whose love ran deep and unwavering, passed away on January 10, 2026, at the age of 77. She was born on August 22, 1948, in Cuero, Texas, to Gregorio and Maria DeLeon Cuellar and was a beloved longtime resident of Victoria, Texas.
Janie was a talented seamstress who dedicated her life to her craft with determination and pride. Her work was admired by many and reflected her discipline, attention to detail, and uncompromising commitment to excellence. She was a woman of deep faith whose strength was grounded in her Catholic beliefs. She also had a lifelong love for animals and cared for every pet she welcomed into her home with devotion and tenderness, treating them as part of the family.
She was married to Alex Gutierrez Jr., with whom she built a strong and devoted family. Janie was a loving and resolute mother to Debra Lozano and her husband, Joe, of Victoria; Alex Gutierrez III and his wife, Judy, of Victoria; and Albert Gutierrez and his wife, Hilary, of Victoria.
She is also survived by her sisters Gloria Vasquez of Victoria and Susan Vargas of Corpus Christi, and her brothers Raul Cuellar and Victor Cuellar, both of Victoria.
Janie was blessed with ten grandchildren, who were the pride of her life and held a special place in her heart: Ally Lozano, Aubrey Gutierrez, Briana Gutierrez, Julie Lozano, Annie Lozano, Alex Gutierrez IV, Joey Lozano, Cash Fortenberry, Victoria Gutierrez, and Abigail Gutierrez.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Gregorio and Maria DeLeon Cuellar; her siblings Mary Helen Chavez, Greg Cuellar, and Robert Cuellar; and Rico Gutierrez, her beloved furry companion of 18 years.
The family will receive friends at a visitation on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Rosewood Funeral Chapels, 3304 Mockingbird Lane, Victoria, Texas, with a brief service to follow at 7:00 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, January 15, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, 407 S. Glass Street, Victoria, Texas. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Albert Gutierrez, Alex Gutierrez IV, Joseph Lozano, Walfre Vasquez, Shaun Cuellar, Ismael Gutierrez Jr., Eugene Gutierrez Jr., and Cash Fortenberry.
