

Martha Joan Moore Cox, 74, of Austin, Texas, passed away on Wednesday, September 7, 2011. She was born July 27, 1937, in Wink, Texas, to the late Emmett Monroe Robeson and Viola Pittman Robeson. Joan went to High School in San Tome, Venezuela and San Marcos Baptist Academy. She lived many years outside Caracus Venezuela, Buenos Aires and Terra del Fuego, Argentina while raising children before returning permanently to live in the United States. In her early
career Joan worked as a legal secretary and in the Business office at Detar Hospital.
Joan graduated with a Masters in Psychology from the University of Houston and worked for the Devereaux Foundation in Victoria as a Licensed Professional Counselor and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. She also taught Psychology as an adjunct Professor at the University of Houston – Victoria Campus. Joan finished her career counseling the elderly in Corpus Christi before retiring in 2002 to the bay in Rockport.
Joan enjoyed her animals, researching genealogy, reading, gardening and her family, as well as fishing, painting, sailing and kayaking. Over the years Joan served in various community leadership roles including the President of the Democratic Women’s Club in Victoria and the President of the Homeowners Association in Holiday Beach, Rockport. She was active in her Christianity though the Westminster Bible Church in its formation years and through Bible Study.
Joan is survived by her Son; Kevin Dorney of Austin, Daughters; Colleen Dorney Klingseisen of Austin, Lou Kilgore, and Martha Callahan of Houston, and Nancy Case of Sanderson, TX. She is survived by her loving sons-in-law Mark Klingseisen, Bill Kilgore, Kenny Case and Tim Callahan. She is also survived by her Grandchildren; Kelly Klingseisen, Kayla Klingseisen, Michael Dorney and Jules Dorney.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husbands; Michael Ennis Dorney and John Arlington Cox, her son; Michael Ennis Dorney II, her sister; Lila Fagan and her brother; Howard Robeson.
The family will receive friends from 12:30-1:30 pm Saturday, September 24, 2011, at Rosewood Funeral Chapel. A memorial service will follow at 2:00 pm. Private burial services will be held.
