Joe was known for his quick wit, sense of humor, and ability to make people feel at ease. Whether in business or at the dinner table, Joe had a way of turning everyday moments into stories worth retelling. Laughter followed him wherever he went.
A dedicated CPA, Joe spent many years serving individuals, families, and businesses with integrity and care. He worked at H.W.U. Accounting Firm, later co-founded Bland and Petrek, and eventually returned to H.W.U. before joining the estate of Thomas O’Connor, where he worked until his retirement in 2019. Joe took great pride in his profession. He went above and beyond for his clients and employers, and was deeply respected for his honesty, wisdom, and commitment to helping others navigate life’s financial complexities.
Joe believed strongly in giving back to his community. Through his professional work, volunteerism, and quiet generosity, he made a lasting difference in the lives of many. He supported causes close to his heart, always believing that a strong community is built by caring for one another.
In his spare time, Joe loved traveling the world with his wife, Marsha, especially enjoying cruises and new culinary experiences along the way. A true food connoisseur with an eye for antiques, he could often be found browsing estate sales, discovering treasures, and striking up conversations with complete strangers.
Above all else, Joe cherished his family. He was a devoted husband, a proud father, and a deeply loving grandfather. Joe and Marsha celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary in October 2025 and gained a beloved son-in-law in March 2024. To his only grandchild, Stone, he was Papa Joe. Stone was truly the apple of his eye, and Papa Joe took immense joy in the many times they spent together.
Joe is survived by his loving wife, Marsha Bland; his daughter, Tara Nicole Bland (Christopher Ten Eyck); his cherished grandson, Stone Bennett Bland Ten Eyck; his sisters, Rose Robin (Chris) and Sharon Bland Ambrosia; and his brother, Bubba Bland (Sandy).
He was preceded in death by his parents, J.R. and Virginia Smith Bland.
A celebration of Joe’s life will be held on Thursday, January 22, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. at Rosewood Funeral Chapels.
Pallbearers will be Todd Foster, Taylor Foster, Zach Drozd, Tim Bland, Dan Richards and Colton Cowart.
