

John R. Arrieta, 73, of Victoria, Texas passed away Sunday, January 28, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. Johnny was born on July 5, 1944 in Norfolk, Virginia, to Francisco and Maria Cristina (Morales) Arrieta, both preceded in death. In 1968, Johnny graduated cum laude from the University of Puerto Rico with a degree in Chemical Engineering.
Before retirement in 2001, Johnny worked for 33 years for Union Carbide Corp/Dow Chemical in Puerto Rico, West Virginia, Louisiana, and Texas. Johnny’s hobbies included fishing, hunting, stamp collecting, gardening, traveling, and voluntary work for the community serving as a member of the Knights of Columbus, Jail Ministries, and Adoration of Blessed Sacrament at Holy Family Church. He was also involved with the Victoria Sembradores Educational Foundation and the Stamp Club of Victoria.
Johnny is survived by his wife of 49 years Carmen Nellie (Drevon) Arrieta; and their sons and daughter: Juan R. Arrieta of Victoria, Victor M. Arrieta and his wife Kristina, Martin E. Arrieta and his wife Kristie, and Marie Arrieta Winters and her husband Matthew from Austin. Surviving Johnny are also his brothers and sister: Dr. Francisco Arrieta and his wife Lydia, Dr. Miguel A. Arrieta and his wife Milagros of Puerto Rico; and Maria Arrieta Cortright and her husband Ronald of North Carolina. Recognized for his endless good humor and a man of good deeds, Johnny will be deeply missed by his extended family including 10 grandchildren, his many nephews and nieces, and countless friends.
Walk-in visitation at Rosewood Funeral Chapel will be held on Friday, February 2, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A rosary at 7:00 p.m. will be recited by Deacon Steve Borowicz. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday , February 3, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Family Church in Victoria, Tx. Burial will take place at Los Cipreses Cemetery in Bayamón, Puerto Rico at a later date.
